In the ancient teachings, The word that we translate as “God” is made up of Hebrew letters. “Letters,” isn’t quite accurate though either, because it’s really a four chapter narrative, each letter a symbol for part of the process whereby the Infinite materializes as the Finite.

What is sacred? What is it to sanctify something? The word sanctify means to separate in order to make holy, to keep separate, to set apart as sacred and separate from the mundane, to hold it in reverence.
I used to be a climber; then my climbing partner fell to his death.
“Im not a climber anymore,” I said this the other day to a friend, and he laughed. I asked what was funny about it because to me it seemed like a simple, true statement, and he said something along the lines of , “well, it was just such a strong claim, and so complete. Like, I don’t climb much anymore either, but I don’t go around saying I’m NOT a climber, with such conviction.”

last week, I made a homeless man cry…I was about to meet some friends at an open mic after work when I pulled up to a stop light. At the median, a homeless man was clearly in an angry, agitated state, aggressively yelling and swinging his fists at an unknown entity. Next, he approaches my car, and comes right up to the glass at my driver’s side window. Intimidation much? But what happened next is not what you or I ever would have expected.
