Yarin Weltsman: Returning to the Land - An Embodied Experience of Knowing God

In the episode “Returning to the Land: An Embodied Experience of Knowing God” of my What is God? podcast, we talked about the idea of returning rather than repentance with our guest, Yarin Weltsman. As a citizen of Jerusalem, Israel, she shared her deep experiences and offered thought-provoking insights on the observed reality of the Jewish people and the differences and beauty.

We started off reflecting on the things that happened and why we ended up in an amazing encounter that set the stage for this engaging episode. Yarin also offered a very fascinating take on my question as to what is God, rephrasing it and exploring the idea of Why God and finding the Divine in both familiar and unexpected places. Drawing from her personal experiences, she shared how returning to Israel to reconnect with her Jewish heritage allowed her to return to herself and emphasized the significance of Israel in a Jew's spiritual journey.

As we talked more about Israel, we explored the beautiful diversity it encompasses. Beyond the ethnic diversity, we examined the varied practices of Jews and how individuals and communities forge their unique paths while still maintaining a shared culture and connection with God. We discussed the presence of these differences both on an individual and collective level, acknowledging that while we may feel distinct from others and that we also feel in ourselves that there are different parts that make up our identity, it is important to look at it from a place of love and understanding.

Our conversation also touched on the importance of self-acceptance and its transformative power. By embracing all aspects of ourselves, we can shift our reality and gain a fresh perspective. We further explored the concept of surrendering and allowing God to fill the gaps in our lives, rather than fixating on them.

Yarin shares her passion for sharing the Torah through feminine wisdom, which she described as a more accessible and fun way of embodying wisdom, a very unique perspective on engaging with spiritual teaching. “That is the heartbreak and the beauty of Jewish people, we can, we always were, and we always will be different. We know that we are diverse in essence and that is the beauty of the Jewish people.”
